IGBC Green Your School Programme® and How It Works

IGBC Green Your School Programme® is an annual programme open to schools across India. The schools are encouraged to come up with sustainable ideas, which can improve and convert the existing school into an green school that helps reduce carbon footprint. One teacher and three students from each school team up and develop ideas for implementation in the school. Jury members from United Way of Delhi, Carrier, IGBC and experts from different fields evaluate the presentations received from schools across country and top eight finalists are selected based on jury selection.

 

Objectives

  • To instill the eco-sensitivity behavior amongst the children in their daily lifestyle.
  • To enable students to spread awareness about environmental education among peer group and the community by taking up environmental issues and finding solutions at individual level.
  • Enable both new and existing schools to incorporate and monitor green school concepts that would result in reducing carbon footprint.
  • To launch as many green school buildings possible along with the support of industry.
  • To instill sense of Green in Young Minds

Guidelines

  • 3 students & 1 teacher shall form a team from each school.
  • The schools can weave their ideas around the following topics:
    • Monitoring the quality of air and drinking water
    • Improving energy efficiency
    • Increased daylight & ventilation
    • Appropriate waste management disposal /practices
    • Functional and clean toilets
    • Hygiene management
    • Well-being related to body & mind
  • Ideas that are developed by students are encouraged rather than bought-out items.
  • The photographs or videos taken while experimenting these ideas can be included in the presentation. Limit the size of presentation up to 25MB.
  • Please make sure submissions are submitted in PowerPoint presentation format, and no other formats such as Docx, PDF, JPEG etc. will be accepted for evaluation.
  • Schools just submitting general messages about health and wellbeing will be disqualified for evaluation.

Assessment Methodology

  • Stage 1
    • All the received entries will be evaluated at the Pre-jury level.
    • The jury would select top eight finalists.
  • Stage 2
    • Out of top eight finalists, top three finalists would be making a final presentation to the distinguished jury.
    • Based on the presentations made by schools, the Jury ranks the top three schools under different categories: Efficient Energy Use, Conserving natural resources & ecology, Education and awareness.
